The CBI filed a status report in the 1984 riots case before a city court on Thursday. The court on April 9, the next date of hearing, will take up the report, which has been submitted in a sealed cover.

The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Jain on March 12 had blasted the CBI for not filing the report on time. It had called the agency’s attitude towards the case as “very strange”. “They should bring the guilty to book and not shield them”, the judge had said.
The court had first directed the CBI to probe the case against Jagdish Tytler on December 18 last year. It had asked the CBI to file its report under Section 173 CrPC (investigation report), after a US-based witness Jasbir Singh, in an interview to Hindustan Times, volunteered to depose against Tytler for allegedly inciting a mob against the Sikhs.
