The Supreme Court on Monday asked Narendra Amin — a suspended senior Gujarat cadre police officer — to respond to the CBI’s petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to him in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

He is also an accused in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. Amin continues to be in jail though he is on bail in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir issued notice to Amin and listed the case for a hearing after four weeks. The CBI has challenged bail granted to Amin by the Bombay High Court on March 5 on medical grounds. The trial in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case was shifted to Mumbai on the apex court’s orders.
The CBI had recently filed a chargesheet against Amin in the Ishrat Jahan case before a special court in Ahmedabad. Besides Amin, several Gujarat police officers are accused in both the cases. Amit Shah, former Gujarat home minister and a close aide of chief minister Narender Modi, is also an accused in the case.
