CBI opposes bail plea of Sajjan's co-accused in 84 riots cases

CBI today opposed the bail plea of six co-accused of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar before a Delhi court in anti-Sikh riots cases alleging there were serious charges against them and there was apprehension oftheir influencing the witnesses.

"The accused have been chargesheeted for the serious offences of murder and rioting. There was also an apprehension
of them influencing the witnesses if the accused remained enlarged on bail during the proceedings," Special Public
Prosecutor Y K Saxena said.

Following lengthy by CBI, the accused as well as victims'counsel, Special Judge P S Teji reserved the order on the
anticipatory bail applications of six persons Peru, Mahender Yadav, Brahma Nand Gupta, Balwant Khokhar, Krishan Khokhar and
Ved Prakash for February 15.

Putting forth their arguments for bail, the counsel for the accused submitted they had already been acquitted by
separate courts following their trial for the offences.

The appeal against their acquittal is also to come up for hearing before the Delhi High Court on February 15, they
argued.

The riots victims' counsel senior advocate H S Phoolka interjected to allege the accused were being given VIP
treatment.
