The CBI is likely to meet former telecom minister now Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran in the first week of July to seek clarifications over the sale of telecom company Aircel's majority stake to Malaysian firm Maxis Communications in 2006.

"We will be meeting Maran early in July to seek clarifications over the allegations around the sale of Aircel's stake to Maxis," a CBI source said. The agency will seek clarifications over allegations made against Maran on statements by C Sivasankaran, Aircel's founder and chairman of Sterling group.
Sivasankaran had alleged he was forced into selling his stake in Aircel to Maxis after his applications for telecom licences were not approved by the DoT deliberately. Sivasankaran allegedly blamed Maran and his brother Kalanithi for arm-twisting him.
