CBI swoops down on TSR system sub-contractor

The agency believes that the sub-contractor, hired for the project despite being ineligible, might allegedly be the part of the quid pro quo in the scam.

"The choice of the Hyderabad-based sub-contractor was inexplicable as it lacked the kind of skill sets and experience that were required to be associated with a high-tech, sophisticated project like the TSR," said a source in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

"The sub-contractor is a construction company that has specialisation only in carrying out canal-lining works and had never performed any TSR function before it was hired," he said. "This sub-contractor received Rs 11.28 crore for laying of temporary cables, but had practically done nothing to justify this huge payment."

"We suspect the amount could be a quid-pro-quo linked to the favours shown by the OC officials," said the source.

"The accused OC officials awarded the contract to a firm that had submitted its bid on the last date of the deadline announced by the OC for accepting tenders," the official added.
