The Centre on Wednesday granted Rs 46 crore to Bihar for relief operations in the wake of floods inundating the northern parts of the state.

The assistance from the Ministry for Rural Development comes under the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) programme. The first instalment of the funds will be provided to 12 districts including the worst-affected ones like Araria, Madhepura, Supaul, Purnea and Chhapra.
The second instalment would be released to only those districts, which have utilised not less than 60 per cent of the available funds, including the first instalment of the current year.
The funding pattern will be 75:25 by the Centre and state.
Apart from this, the ministry has also cleared a Central assistance of Rs 784 crore to the state governments of Assam, Bihar and Rajasthan under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) during the current financial year.
