The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) on Thursday stayed the regulation of electricity supply by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) till January 5.

It took the decision after a hearing to settle petitions filed by BRPL and BYPL against NTPC, NHPC and PGCIL. January 5 has also been fixed as the next date of hearing.
The NTPC had recently announced regulation of power to Delhi from December 31 if the power discoms failed to clear its dues in time.
The BRPL and BYPL had petitioned the commission, challenging the bills issued by NTPC, NHPC and PGCIL. They said that the bills are charged 'retrospectively' with effect from April 2009.
The commission stayed the regulation of supply by NTPC till the next date of hearing and asked NTPC, BRPL and BYPL to furnish the details of alleged wrongful dues claimed by NTPC.
NTPC had on August 5 asked BRPL and BYPL to pay up arrears of R425 crore by calculating some of the bill components on retrospective basis.
