Chargesheet filed in Rajbir murder case

The Central Bureau of Investigation file a chargesheet in the Rajbir Singh murder case on Saturday, reports HT Correspondent.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet in the Rajbir Singh murder case on Saturday. The agency has stated that "on the basis of forensic, oral and circumstantial evidence, it has been established that Vijay Bhardwaj had shot at and killed ACP Rajbir Singh with a .32 revolver."

The chargesheet was filed in the court of Special Judicial Magistrate, Ambala under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 25/27 of the Indian Arms Act. The court has taken cognizance and summoned Bhardwaj on June 30 for further proceedings.

Rajbir was shot dead on March 24 in Gurgaon. Bhardwaj surrendered before the Gurgaon police after the incident.

The CBI took over the investigation of the case on June 2.

“During investigation, CBI examined more than 125 witnesses and also collected forensic and other scientific evidence,” an official said.

"It has come to light that the weapon used in the killing of Rajbir had been reportedly lost by a deputy SP of Haryana Police in an encounter on July 21, 2007 in Bhiwani district. Further investigation is being carried out to find out how this weapon reached the accused Vijay Bhardwaj," he said.
