A 17-year-old class 12 student filed a complaint at south Delhi's Safdarjung Enclave police station on Monday, stating that her friend had been raping her for three years.

She also alleged that her friend - pursuing BA through correspondence - had been threatening her because of which she could not muster the courage to lodge a complaint against him. He had also promised to marry her, police said.

On the basis of the girl's complaint, a case of rape and threatening was registered at the Safdarjung Enclave police station against the accused identified as one Sumit. A police officer said Sumit, 19, was arrested after the victim's medical examination confirmed rape.

The girl is a student of a government school in south Delhi. Sumit was her senior in school and they became friends, said a police officer, quoting her complaint.

"She alleged that around two years ago, Sumit lured her to his house when his family members were away. He established physical relations with the girl by promising her that he will marry her," said the police officer.

"For the past some days, the girl had been pressurising Sumit for marriage which he refused. After this, she approached the police and filed a case against him," the officer added.
