A Class 9 student of Delhi government-run Sarvodaya Vidyalaya was raped allegedly by a 16-year-old neighbour in northwest Delhi's Mahendra Park.

The boy is a student of the same school, police said on Saturday. The incident, according to the police, took place on Friday afternoon when the 14-year-old girl was at her home with her younger sister.

A case of rape has been registered at the Mahendra Park police station and boy arrested. He was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to an observation home for juveniles.

The girl's mother had gone to work at a beauty parlour at the time of the incident, a police complaint registered by her family said. The boy came to the house ostensibly to get some cotton.

"A medical examination of the girl that was conducted at Babu Jag Jivan Ram Hospital has confirmed rape. Following the confirmation, a case was registered and the boy arrested," the officer said.

In a similar incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her neighbour in west Delhi's Mundka area late on Friday.

The police said the matter came to light when the girl's parents approached the Mundka police and registered their complaint against their neighbour, a 21-year-old man.

The girl, a police officer said, was alone at her home when the accused barged in and raped the minor.

A medical examination of the victim was conducted at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, which proved that she had been rape.

The police are looking for the accused man, who is absconding, added the officer.
