Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit (71) on Wednesday asked officials of the Environment Department to get their ground-level teams to pull up their socks.

The HT on Wednesday had reported that plastic bags, banned by the government earlier this year, had made a comeback at shops across the capital thanks to lack of enforcement drives.

“The chief minister asked officials not to get lax on enforcement and carry out raids on violators because plastic bags posed an environmental and health hazard,” said a senior Environment Department official, who did not wish to be named.

The department’s enforcement officials have now been instructed to report the extent of violations across the nine administrative districts of Delhi.
