Delhi University (DU) colleges will be allowed to decide additional admission criteria, such as minimum marks in a subject or deduction of marks for certain subjects but only if they are justified.

In a notification issued to colleges regarding the new admission process, DU administration made it clear that while colleges will be allowed to decide additional admission criteria, they would also have to provide a justification for such criteria.
Colleges usually have criteria like minimum marks in English or Hindi for admission to language courses.
Colleges are supposed to send the criteria along with the justification to the dean of students’ welfare by May 9.
“The ‘additional admission criteria’ should be kept to the minimum possible and the justification for each criterion adopted should be clearly spelt out,” the notification reads.
It also prohibits colleges from changing the criteria between the first cut-off list and the subsequent ones. “Some colleges change eligibility criteria ... so that a particular student gets admission. We want to make sure that this does not happen,” said a senior university official.
The university has also asked all colleges to mention clearly in their prospectuses that all undergraduate courses will be taught in the semester mode.
