The three-member committee formed to look into the division and restructuring of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) finalised its recommendations on Friday.

The committee, headed by revenue minister Ashok Kumar Walia, has agreed to divide India’s second largest civic body into five smaller units. Urban development minister Rajkumar Chauhan and education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely are its other two members.
Sources said the committee has asked principal secretary (urban development) to compile its recommendations in a week. It is likely to sign the report next week and present it to the Cabinet later this month.
According to its recommendations, Delhi should be divided into five smaller civic bodies. Each assembly constituency should have six municipal councillors, which will take their number to 408 from the current 272. Two constituencies will cover NDMC areas.
