Backed by Gurgaon-based social organisations, residents have demanded rollback of Rs 1 hike in toll rates.

The city’s social organisations said they would move the Union ministry of road transport and highways as well as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). However, the toll management and NHAI have expressed their inability to roll back the rates. The major reason being that 2 lakh vehicles cross this toll plaza daily, which brings in R2 lakh per day.

RS Rathee, president of Gurgaon Citizens Council, who too was stuck in jam for 45 minutes, said, “Situation like this has never arisen. We will contact the Centre and NHAI officials with a petition.”

However, concessionaire firm Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connect-

ivity Ltd officials said the decision to raise toll rates was taken by the Centre as part of an agreement. “Also, because we share toll revenue with the NHAI, the call has to be taken by the NHAI and not by us,” the official said.

NHAI officials, however, said the decision to withdraw the raised rates lied with DGSCL.
