An emergency meeting of the Congress core group — the second in the absence of party president Sonia Gandhi who is recovering after a surgery overseas — discussed the plan to break the deadlock in parliament and also deliberated on the current political situation in the country.

Both government and Congress managers, it is learnt, have decided to adopt an aggressive strategy to ensure the passage of maximum number of bills in the remaining part of the session irrespective of the fact whether the opposition cooperates or not.

Parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Bansal and deputy Rajiv Shukla were the special invitees at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and attended by all the other members of the core committee.

The repeated disruptions have so far resulted in the loss of substantial amount of time during the monsoon session which began on August 1 and most of the official business is pending, including the passage of at least 30 bills.
