With the opposition stalling proceedings in both houses of parliament for yet another day on Wednesday, the Congress top brass went into a huddle to work out a strategy to ensure a smooth run of the remaining part of the monsoon session.

An emergency meeting of the Congress core group — the second in the absence of party president Sonia Gandhi who is recovering after a surgery overseas — discussed the plan to break the deadlock in parliament and also deliberated on the current political situation in the country.
Both government and Congress managers, it is learnt, have decided to adopt an aggressive strategy to ensure the passage of maximum number of bills in the remaining part of the session irrespective of the fact whether the opposition cooperates or not.
Parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Bansal and deputy Rajiv Shukla were the special invitees at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and attended by all the other members of the core committee.
The meeting came in the backdrop of repeated disruption of parliament by the opposition over issues such as the demand for discussion on corruption and price rise under a rule that entails voting, the comptroller and auditor general's report on irregularities in the commonwealth games, baton charge on protesting BJP workers in Delhi and the killing of farmers in Pune.
