Congress on Tuesday dismissed BJP’s reservation over the impartiality of the new CEC Navin Chawla terming it as politically motivated.

“BJP is raising the issue for political purposes... Now, it should allow the Election Commission to discharge its constitutional responsibility,” party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters in New Delhi.
BJP leaders Yashwant Sinha and Rajiv Pratap Rudy cast aspersions on the conduct of the CEC in their constituencies of Hazaribagh and Saran.
On UP chief Minister Mayawati’s charges against the EC, Natarajan said it was not proper to indulge in “mudslinging” on the functioning of a constitutional body. “It is not correct,” Natarajan said.
When asked to comment on the BJP’s complaint, deputy election commissioner R Balakrishnan said, “We have nothing to say. Every complaint is duly enquired and verified.”
