After party chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s personal intervention to mollify Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Congress sources claim that further action against Beni Prasad Verma is unlikely to take place.

But the Kurmi leader from UP, who had joined the Congress in 2009, has been tamed—at least for now—and has been warned against making any more casual remarks against Yadav.
Top Congress sources said action against Verma may be interpreted as the Congress succumbing to SP pressure.
Earlier, the Congress had acted under opposition pressure and removed Ashok Chavan from Maharashtra CM chair and forced Shashi Tharoor to resign from the council of ministers.
“But that proved to be counter-productive as the opposition bayed for more blood and demanded the resignation of the PM over the coalgate,” said a top leader.
