Seeking to cool temperatures between India and Pakistan, the Congress on Friday said war was not the solution and that the country only wants Islamabad to hand over fugitivies who have carried out Mumbai and other terror strikes in New Delhi.

"War is not a solution to any problem...," party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told reporters when asked whether there was a possibility of war between the two countries.
He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee have already spoken on the issue.
"India is a peaceful country and does not want war," Ahmed added.
He said the country only wanted Pakistan to comply with India's demand of handing over the fugitives who have carried out terror attacks in India.
On Pakistan's claim that Kasab is not its citizen, Ahmed said, "Pakistan is lying from all cylinders".
He also disagreed with the view that the diplomatic offensive on Pakistan was a failure.
