Congress confident DMK won't pull out

The DMK will hold a high level meeting on Wednesday to discuss strategy after CBI chargesheet.

Senior Congress sources also maintained that the DMK would not create any crisis even though all eyes are now on DMK chief's daughter who was named a co-conspirator in receiving Rs 200 crore for Kalaignar TV in lieu of 2G licence given to Swan Balwa-promoted Swan Telecom for Delhi circle.

Kanimozhi is to appear before the special CBI court on May 6.

The DMK was more worried about Dayalu's fate than Kanimozhi's following reports that the CBI would name both of them as Dayalu holds 60% share in Kalaignar TV.

DMK sources had hinted that if Dayalu's name had figured as an accused, Karunanidhi might have pulled out its ministers.
Dismissing any threat to the UPA coalition, the Congress made it clear that the government had 'no role, no control' over the CBI investigation.

Tewari said, "political alliances are based on political realities and these are not influenced by abberations...we are in an alliance and we will continue to be in the alliance."

The DMK is the third largest constituent of UPA and has 18 members in the Lok Sabha.

Congress sources said both the DMK and the Congress would wait for the results of the Tamil Nadu polls. The DMK may need the Congress' help to form the next government.

Political analyst Cho Ramaswamy said, "Now, the DMK needs the Congress more than ever and would do nothing to upset the national party and the PM who can give protection."

DMK brass including Karunanidhi went into a huddle in Chennai and called a high-level meet on Wednesday.

A DMK statement said the issue of questioning Kanimozhi and Dayalu had been made a "publicity exercise of gargantuan proportions".

"... Even after it had been proved in a transparent manner that the Rs 200 crore loan given by a firm (DB Reality to Kalaignar TV) was returned with interest and that there was nothing hanky panky and no conspiracy, Dayalu and Kanimozhi were questioned ...," the statement said.
