Congress MPs from Telangana meet Azad

Nine Congress MPs from Telangana region, who submitted their resignation letters, today met union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to put forward their views on statehood demand.

The MPs met Azad, who is AICC in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, and held a meeting for about an hour.

Except K Keshav Rao, all the Congress MPs from the region attended the meeting. Rao was not in Delhi at the time of the meeting.

Following the meeting with Azad, the nine MPs later met Rao at his residence to finetune their strategy.

Earlier in the day, Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao urged those holding agitation in Telangana region to attend a meeting convened by Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Reddy to sort out the problem.

"I appeal to the agitators to meet the chief minister and discuss the issue. They can take a decision on the next course of action after that discussion," Rao, an MP from Telangana region who has not resigned, told reporters here.

However, he sought to puncture the argument of those opposing Telangana demand that violence will follow if the state is bifurcated.

"A Telangana Region Coordination Committee was formed in the party. Why did not they oppose it then? We fought the election with separate Telangana as a subject in our manifesto. People elected us and we formed the government. People have given their verdict but some leaders are opposing it today," he said.
