Constable shot at by friend after brawl

A 24-year-old Delhi Police constable was shot at, allegedly by his childhood friend with whom he was having dinner at a dhaba in southwest Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar on Wednesday night. HT reports.

The accused also fled with the constable’s Santro car.

The police said the constable, identified as Harkesh, posted at the Shalimar Bagh police station had a heated argument with his friend over a minor issue after which a scuffle broke out between them.

The friend, identified as Vivek Malik, allegedly hit Harkesh with a water mug.

When Harkesh started calling up his associates using his mobile phone, the accused shot him in his leg and fled in the victim’s car, said a senior police officer.

According to the officer, the incident came to light after the constable’s brother, Sanjay Maan, made a call to the police control room (PCR) and informed that his brother was shot at by three men.

In his statement, Harkesh told police that he was shot at by his childhood friend Vivek Malik after an argument broke out between them over a petty issue.

Harkesh said he had never imagined that Malik would go to the extent of firing a bullet on him.

“Malik is absconding and efforts are on to nab him. His interrogation would only reveal the exact reason behind the argument,” added the officer.
