Cop crushed to death by speeding car

A 51-year-old Delhi Police head constable was killed when he was hit by a speeding Santro car in Usmanpur area of northeast Delhi on Wednesday night.

A 51-year-old Delhi Police head constable was killed when he was hit by a speeding Santro car in Usmanpur area of northeast Delhi on Wednesday night. The victim, identified as Ishwar Dayal, was posted at Gandhi Nagar police station in East Delhi and was crossing the road when the car hit him. The impact was so powerful that he was dragged for a few metres.

“The driver fled the scene leaving the car behind. We have impounded the car and trying to trace the owner or driver who was behind the wheels at the time of accident,” a police officer said.

The incident was reported from a petrol pump near IT Park. According to eyewitnesses, the car was at a very high speed.

The police rushed Dayal to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered and efforts are on to nab the driver.
