Cop run over by call centre executive

A 56-year-old Delhi Police sub inspector was run over by a speeding call centre executive's luxury car and dragged for more than 100 metres, as his colleague looked on in horror, in central Delhi's Tilak Mark on Monday.

The errant driver reportedly could not spot his victims because he was watching a music video on the LCD screen installed in his vehicle, as he took a 180-degree turn at breakneck speed.

"The victim, sub-inspector Hariram and his junior colleague, constable Ashwini, were on their way to the Patiala House court complex when the speeding Hyundai Accent rammed their Pulsar bike from behind at the C-hexagon on Tilak Marg at 12:55pm. The victim was riding pillion," said VA Gupta, ADCP (New Delhi).

Police identified the errant driver as Vikaspuri resident Jaspreet Singh, 31.

An advisor at Walklet, a call centre in Noida, Singh has been found to be behind seven traffic violations and was booked for an accident at west Delhi's Rajouri Garden in 2006.

"They had just taken the roundabout when Singh, who seems to have been driving atleast at a speed of 60 kmph at the time, failed to spot them and rammed their vehicle into their motorcycle from behind," the officer said.

"SI Hariram got stuck beneath the speeding vehicle and got dragged for 100 metres before it finally stopped after crashing into a pavement," the officer added.
