The police claimed to have busted two illegal arms manufacturing units following the arrest of two persons. “The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Hashim, 52, and Mohammad Sagir, 32. They were arrested from east Delhi's Vinod Nagar area on Thursday and 113 fire-arms were recovered from them,” said Arun Kampani, deputy commissioner of police (special cell).

“Hashim moved to Delhi a year ago and rented a shop in East Vinod Nagar, where he fronted as the owner of a cycle-repair outlet. However, the shop’s rear portion was used to assemble arms,” a senior police officer said. The police said the duo is part of a larger network of criminals running illegal arms factories in Ghaziabad and Delhi.

“Several searches in Ghaziabad and East Vinod Nagar yielded functional and ready-to-assemble weapon components for 20 pistols of 9 MM bore, 80 pistols of .315 bore, 9 revolvers of .32 bore besides two .315 bore pistols with six cartridges one .32 bore revolver with 6 cartridges and one 9 MM pistol with five cartridges —which cumulatively comes to 113 weapons and 15 cartridges,” said a senior police officer. Police said the average selling price of the weapons would range from R15,000-R20,000.
