It seems the police were waiting for the media to raise the issue of delay in action against those who had beaten up 27-year-old Bhupender Nagar, the chief security officer of a pub in Nehru Place on February 13. A day after the media blew the lid, the police added stricter section to the existing FIR.

Despite the CCTV footage obtained from the hotel clearly showing the accused using gun to threaten the victim, staff of New Friends Colony police station restrained adding sections of Arms Act in the FIR. On Saturday, sections of Arms Act were added. The police also booked the accused for riot, a section which was not there in the original FIR.
“Statements of other security guards were also recorded and regular raids were conducted. Based on the complaint of the injured, appropriate sections were added. Sections 147, 148, 149 for rioting Section 506 of IPC and Section 25 and 27 of Arms Act have been added in the existing FIR,” Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police said.
“Had it not been for the media, the accused would have been roaming free even today. Now, they (police) have arrested eight persons. But one should ask them, what the investigating officer was doing for the past past 12 days,” Rohit Tomar, manager of jynxxx club of Nehru Place, where victim was chief security officer, said. On Friday, various teams were formed to arrest the accused who had been identified at the time of the incident only. Apart from arresting the accused, the police have recovered the two cars — Scorpio and Wagon — used in the incident.
All the accused are from a rural background and are school dropouts. According to locals, the accused had also fired two rounds of bullet in the air, but the police said that they didn’t recover any empty rounds from the spot.

The hotel is part of a complex that includes commercial spaces and business establishments. Jynxxx is located in the same complex. And that Nagar is not an employee of the hotel.
