As a result, police constables in plain clothes will be deployed outside Vishwavidyalaya Metro station and other important locations. Special checking of buses and Metro feeder buses will also be conducted in and around the campus.

"Most complaints of harassment come from outside the college campus. This year, we are extra cautious. Constables in plain clothes will be guarding the Metro and buses," said IB Rani, DCP (North).

Last week, a meeting was held between the Delhi Police and DU colleges, to discuss the new set of anti-ragging guidelines. "We have told the colleges to strictly implement Supreme Court's anti-ragging guidelines. Women cops, in uniform as well as in plain clothes, will be deployed at various strategic locations. Special bus checking will be conducted in and around Campus," said Rani.

Meanwhile, five booths manned by women police personnel have been set up in north campus. "Female students are not comfortable approaching male cops. There will be extra deployment of women cops outside the colleges," added Rani.

"We have appointed nodal officers for every college. All the deans of faculty and principals of colleges have been given names and mobile numbers of police officers to be inducted as members of Anti-Ragging Committee," said Sharma.

Delhi University has also issued a circular, asking colleges to appoint ‘special moral tutors', who will guide and help out freshers against ragging instances.

"We have constituted anti-ragging committees and vigilance squads to maintain vigil and prevent hooliganism, ragging, eve-teasing and other untoward incidents," said Anju Shrivastava, media coordinator, Hindu College.

A control room jointly manned by Delhi Police and DTC officials and university authorities has also been set up at Chhatra Marg near the WUS Health Centre.
