Cops to look into Geelani’s speech for ‘any offence’

The Delhi Police is looking into the speech given by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, leader of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference, at a discussion convened at Mandi House on Thursday.

“We are studying the speech given by various speakers at the public forum to decide whether any offence is made or not,” said Shankar Dash, additional commissioner of police (New Delhi).

The police said they have asked for the videotapes from various television channels that were present when the convention ‘Azadi - The Only Way’ was held at an auditorium.

The police said they received complaints and would register a case only after studying the speech. More than 70 activists were detained on Friday when speeches by Geelani and writer Arundhati Roy created a ruckus.
