Six persons, including a couple, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a robbery at the house of a senior advocate in Rajender Nagar on Thursday, police said.

The couple has been identified as Joginder Kaur (32) and her husband Tajinder Singh (34). The other accused are -- Harvinder Singh (35), a taxi driver, and Tajinder's three workers, Puneet Urao (30), Manoj Urao (35) and Ranjeet Urao (20).

The robbery was reported on Thursday from the house of one CS Aggarwal. Kaur, the mastermind of the robbery, was working as a receptionist at the office-cum-residence of Aggarwal.

The accused were arrested on Friday by a team comprising inspectors Brajesh Mishra and inspector Ramesh Chand, sub-inspector Pramod Anand, ASI Gajender and others. The police recovered R1 lakh cash, $100, stolen jewellery and weapons used in the crime from the accused's possession.

“During interrogation, we found that Kaur was in a poor financial condition due to the illness of her mother-in-law and had a debt of R3 lakh. Kaur told her husband about the robbery plan around 20 days before it was executed with the help of their four accomplices," said additional commissioner of police (central) Devesh Chandra Srivastava.

Kaur helped her accomplices enter the house and asked them to hide in the basement.

“As soon as Kaur left the house after work, her accomplices overpowered Aggarwal, his wife and servants on gunpoint and locked them in a room. They ransacked the house and fled away," said the officer.

He said since the entry of the robbers was friendly, the needle of suspicion pointed at Kaur.
