Court completes trial within seven days

A Delhi court took just a week's time to conclude the trial of a criminal case by acquitting a person accused of killing a man by hitting him with a stone.

Sameer Solanki, 25, a resident of Azadpur in north Delhi walked free as the court was convinced during its seven-day trial that the evidences, including an eye witness' account, did not support the charge that the stone was thrown by the accused.

The victim's minor son had lodged the FIR naming the accused as the person who allegedly caused death of his father.

While acquitting Solanki, the court noted that the minor had failed to identify him and prosecution also did not come out with enough evidence to support its case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the IPC.

"Mere reference of the accused in the FIR without an iota of allegation in court was not sufficient. The complainant by failing to identify the accused has damaged the prosecution case irreparably," the court said.
