Court shoots down police plea for Chaddha's custody

A Delhi court on Monday rejected the police's plea, seeking custody of Aruna Chaddha, employee of former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, to "confront her" with the former minister during his questioning in the Geetika Sharma suicide case.

Not satisfied with the police application, metropolitan magistrate Vipin Kharb said, "The prosecution failed to show documents which could show that the accused needs to be confronted with the documents recovered after Kanda's arrest."

Geetika Sharma, a 23-year-old former airhostess with Kanda's MDLR airline, had committed suicide at her residence on August 5.

In her suicide note, she had alleged that she was ending her life due to harassment by Kanda and Chaddha.

Chaddha, who had been remanded on August 16 in 14-day judicial custody, was produced before the court which sent her back to judicial custody for a day till Tuesday.

Kanda was sent in seven day police custody on August 18 following his surrender and subsequent arrest. As part of the investigation, he was taken to various places, including his offices in Haryana from where the Delhi Police claimed to have recovered certain documents including various electronic devices.
