Crime branch constables in the dock for 'illegal' raid

Two head constables of Delhi Police's crime branch are in the dock for conducting an illegal raid at a businessman's house in North Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar last week and detaining him. Sources said that the staff of anti-robbery wing of crime branch went on a raid without informing their boss and picked up a businessman.

But it turned out to be a misadventure for the two cops when the businessman made a PCR call and informed senior officers about the raid. Following the complaint, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against them. "Currently the two head constables, Amit and Pyare Lal, have been sent to district lines and a separate wing of crime branch is conducting an inquiry against them. We have taken the statement of the victim and stricter action will be taken after the completion of inquiry," said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.

Sources said the incident had taken place almost a week ago when the two cops, who reportedly had some personal enmity with the victim, barged into his house in Mukherjee Nagar in north Delhi. "Both the crime branch personnel picked him up. But the victim managed to make a PCR call and the PCR took all of them to the local police station. There they showed their I-cards and the crime branch officials were allowed to take the man in their custody," the source added.
