Crime tracking system to be in place soon

The two districts have been selected to launch the project as pilot basis.

The system will be rolled out across the state over the next two years, an official statement said here Friday.

The decision to introduce the CCTNS, a comprehensive and integrated system based on shared database network, was taken during a meeting of a state government's committee chaired by chief secretary Urvashi Gulati.

Information and Technology company Hewlett-Packard has been chosen to develop the system for which the Union home ministry has already sanctioned R31.39 crore.

The state government will bear the remaining cost of the R53-crore project.

All district administrations have started awareness programme to give basic training about computer to their staff while a total of 10,978 police officials have undergone basic computer training, the statement said, adding that another 18,000 will be trained in the next one year.

The system includes hardware, communication infrastructure and a data centre.

Once the CCTNS is introduced, complaints can be registered through internet, e-mail, mobile phone, SMS and at e-DISHA Kendra.

Request for all types of services including police verification can also be made through various mode of communication.

The CCTNS would focus on modules like registration, investigation, and prosecution solutions; crime prevention solutions, reporting solutions; collaboration solutions; emergency response management solutions; citizen and external interfacing solutions and traffic solutions, the statement said.

The financial commissioner and principal secretary, home, Samir Mathur; the director general of police, Ranjeev Dalal and several other senior officers of the police department were present at the meeting.

Earlier in January this year, Haryana became the first state in the country to release the Request for Proposal (RFP) for selection of System Integrator for the implementation, commissioning and maintenance of the CCTNS project.

After completion of the tendering process, the state panel shortlisted HP as the System Integrator.
