Criminal who dodged cops for years lands in net

A 35-year-old criminal, involved in a gun-battle with a team of the Delhi Police in 2004, has been arrested by the southeast district police for his alleged involvement in more than 30 cases of robbery, burglary, cheating and the Arms Act. HT reports.

The accused, identified as Sanjeev Kumar alias Baba, had fled from the custody of Maharashtra police, while being taken from Delhi to Mumbai on transit remand in 2003.

The police were taking Baba to Mumbai in connection with a looting case. A cash reward of Rs. 50 thousand was announced on his arrest.

The Amar Colony police said Baba was declared a proclaimed offender in more than four cases registered at various police stations across Delhi.

He was dodging the police for the past five years.

Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police (southeast), said Baba was arrested, based on the tip-off about his movement in Amar Colony area.

The police team was led by Virender Jain, SHO of Amar Colony.

"In 2004, after a fierce encounter, Baba was arrested again by a team of the Tilak Marg police station," added Chaudhry.
