The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday arrested a Central Reserve Police Force deputy inspector general (DIG) and two others in Lucknow for their alleged involvement in appointment of ineligible candidates to the paramilitary force.

DIG Vinod Kumar Sharma was operating a well-entrenched recruitment racket for appointment to various posts including those of general duty constables, drivers and fitters in the force for hefty bribes, the CBI said.
Apart from Sharma, the agency also arrested his two of his “touts” — CBI head constable BB Chaube and one Arvind — and recovered some documents and cash from them.
The trio has been active since December, when the process to select candidates for around 1, 600 junior posts at the Lucknow-based CRPF’s Bijnore Group Centre got underway.
Chaube was nabbed when he was allegedly accepting Rs 90, 000 in bribe. Later, the CBI seized Rs 4 lakh from another of Sharma’s touts. Sharma was to get Rs 3 lakh and the remaining sum was to go to Chaube.
Sharma, said the CBI, would provide information about proposed recruitments to Chaube who would then task his men with collecting information about candidates willing to bribe their way through.
