Taking strong exception to a plan to build a 14-storey building next to the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station, Delhi University’s academic and executive council passed resolutions against the move on Wednesday.

The multi-storey residential building to be built by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is at complete variance with the character of the university, DU authorities say.
“We have been opposing the plan for a long time. The implications of building such a complex are huge for the university. For one, what about the parking and traffic congestion?” said Dinesh Singh, vice-chancellor, DU.
According to officials, DU is in dire need of land and would have bought the land at market price.
“A multi-storey residential building does not make any sense when children in the university don’t have a place
to even stand. We had proposed to add four floors to the existing buildings to accommodate more students but were refused. How was the DMRC given permissions?” said a university official on condition of anonymity.
The plan was approved around two years ago and has been opposed by the Delhi Urban Art Commission along with DU.
