Cycling tracks found damaged at stadium

According to sources, in many toilets, hardware fittings such as taps and shower fittings were also found missing.

Constructed at a cost of R 150 crore, the cycling velodrome was earlier deemed unusable by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the government agency that built the stadium.

CPWD officials informed the Sports Authority of India that contractors had damaged the timber track that was specially laid for cycling events during the recently concluded Commonwealth Games.

"The contractor did not know how to properly remove the Games signages and in the process of removing them, the cycling timber track was damaged badly," said a senior official.

"The track is so badly damaged that it can't be used for any other sporting event. Repair work is urgently needed in the velodrome."
