Emphasising on the need for compassion in today’s world, the Dalai Lama expressed his desire for a female successor. He was addressing a gathering of students at DPS, Mathura Road, in the capital.

The school and Ibtida Shiksha Kendra, a centre for education for underprivileged children in DPS premises, welcomed the spiritual leader.
On being asked if the next karmapa could be a female, the Dalai Lama said, “Women are more sensitive and compassionate. It would be great if the next Dalai Lama could be a female.”
Amidst jokes and laughter, he talked about peace, harmony and his commitment to humanity. “My two commitments today are promoting human happiness through non-violence and religious harmony. India is a perfect example for both,” he said.
Students performed a dance on the eight-fold path preached by Lord Buddha and recited poems on world peace.
