DCPCR orders inquiry, issues notices to schools

The academia and the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) have reacted with shock at the sexual abuse of the three siblings who were raped and sodomised by the cab driver hired by their mother and four teenaged schoolboys for over a year in central Delhi's Prasad Nagar.

The DCPCR too has taken serious note of the matter and has ordered an inquiry. Furthermore, it has also issued notices to the schools for compromising the security of the students.

"It is a serious matter. Children are vulnerable and have to be under constant guardianship. Schools have to ensure that the children enter and leave the school premises safely. It is their prerogative to ensure complete security of the children," said Amod Kanth, chairperson, DCPCR.

He also added that the parents, police, school and the education department would all be held accountable in the high-level enquiry that it has ordered.

Reacting to the incident, the officiating principal of the school where the 12-year-old girl studies said, "I am in absolute shock. I have no knowledge of the incident. Most of the children that study in the school belong to the economically weaker section. After sending their children to school the parents just don't bother. They neither come for any meeting nor verify important things such as the whereabouts of the drivers who ferry their children."
