The Delhi Development Authority's (DDA) plan to auction 21 plots in Rohini next month has come under fire from allottees of its 1981 Rohini residential scheme.
The DDA had floated a residential scheme back in 1981 for allotting plots of different sizes under MIG, LIG and EWS categories. While nearly 25,000 people had applied for and got plots under the scheme, it took the Delhi Development Authority three decades to start providing the plots, that too of reduced sizes. Even though more than 24,000 applicants were finally provided plots last year, nearly 400 applicants are yet to be benefitted.
In a separate scheme, DDA now plans to auction 21 plots in Rohini, with reserve prices ranging between R63 lakhs and R 7.48 crore, depending on the plot size and location. The plot sizes vary between 31 and 200 square metres and the auction would be held on March 13 and 15.
Rahul Gupta, one of the allottees, who had also filed a case in the Delhi High Court, claimed that the auction by DDA is illegal as the Court had directed DDA not to auction any plot from Rohini land, till all registrants of the 1981 scheme were allotted plots. "The plots that are being auctioned were initially carved out and developed for Rohini Residential Scheme registrants," he said.
"Nearly 25,000 plots have already been allotted and only 400 LIG registrants are left. The delay has also been due to lack of infrastructure in the area," said a senior DDA official, who did not wish to be identified . "Providing services took time because utilities had to be realigned to bypass land that were under stay orders," the official said.
