Metropolitan magistrate Saumya Chauhan directed Gupta to appear in court on June 22 to respond to Dikshit’s allegation.

Dikshit had alleged that Gupta had defamed her by using “uncivilised” language before the recent MCD elections.

After reading the order, Dikshit’s counsel Mehmood Pracha told reporters that the court had noted that personal reputation was one of the most important things for a person and in this case Dikshit has been called a “cheat and villain” by the accused (Gupta).

A case has been filed under Section 499 and 500 (Defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.

The chief minister had testified that she had sent legal notices to Gupta after the civic polls, but he had not apologised and instead stood by his remarks.
