Officials claim that in more than 35 attacks on policemen that have been reported in 2014, six cops have lost their lives while performing their duty.

On Sunday, two policemen were killed and another injured when a speeding car rammed a picket near Delhi Noida border in Jaitpur, near Kalindi Kunj.

Eyewitnesses claim that while the car had slowed down approximately 100 meters from the picket, the driver accelerated once again and did not stop even after the impact. “The car stopped only after a barricade came under it,” said a police official.

The victims have been identified as ASI Nagender Singh, 52, and constable Sawarkar Prahlad Rasmao, 41. While Prahlad is survived by his mother, wife and two daughters, Singh is survived by his wife and two sons.

In a similar case of road rage, an assistant commissioner of police (ACP), posted with the special cell of Delhi Police, was attacked by a woman, her son and her husband in south Delhi’s Nizamuddin. The official was severely injured and had to be admitted to a hospital.

Owing to the surge in attacks, the Delhi police had planned to equip traffic policemen with arms for their safety.

“The martyrs would certainly be rewarded as per the norms,” said Rajan Bhagat, Delhi police spokesperson.
