Delhi CM's 'picture perfect' feats

After giving Delhi new roads, flyovers and pedestrian bridges, strengthening the Capital's public transport system and developing it into a cultural hub, chief minister Sheila Dikshit said her government would now focus on the development of the social sector, regularisation of unauthorised colonies and providing affordable houses to economically-weaker sections.

Releasing a picture book on her administration's 12th anniversary, Dikshit said getting world heritage status for Delhi is her ambition now and that her government had begun working towards it.

"Now, our priority would be the social sector. Providing housing to the economically-weaker sections (EWS) category, regularising unauthorised colonies, building more schools and hospitals will be the main focus areas," Dikshit said.

Addressing her team of officials, Dikshit described the successful hosting of the Commonwealth Games as a major milestone, saying it had "enhanced the image of Delhi across the world."

Listing the achievements of her government, Dikshit further said that the expansion of the Delhi Metro and introduction of low-floor buses had completely changed Delhi's image internationally. She also appreciated her government's efforts in improving educational standards in state-run schools.

However, striking a jarring note, Delhi BJP president Vijendra Gupta slammed the Delhi government for self-appreciation, saying the common man has not benefited from the Dikshit administration's so-called 'achievements'.

"Corruption is rampant and prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed. Only 60% Delhi gets potable water. This government is the most insensitive and is a dictatorship," Gupta said.
