Several areas of the Capital city saw power cuts on Friday due to a 500 MW drop in supply caused by technical snags at the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) plants and Dadri power station.

According to the power department officials, two units of Damodar Valley Corporation and one unit of Dadri power station had been affected, which resulted in reduced supply.
Sources said south and west Delhi were worst affected and some parts of north Delhi also witnessed power cuts lasting for more than an hour. The city witnessed a peak demand of 3599 MW that was only going to increase substantially in the coming few days. R
“DVC plant has been facing snags for the past few days and the restoration work is likely to take another few days. There was a shortage of at least 500 MW but because the demand was not very high on Monday, the situation could be controlled. Power distribution companies were asked to carry out load-shedding on rotational basis,” said a power department official.
