Making this announcement on Friday, Railway minister Mamataa Banerjee said the pre-feasibility study for the western leg (Delhi-Mumbai) of the Golden Rail Corridor for high-speed passenger trains will start next year. A double-decker AC train to Jaipur, a Shatabdi to Ludhiana and Duranto Express trains to Mumbai and Ajmer were some other announcements made by the minister in budget speech.

However, for people who travel between Delhi and NCR every day, the budget was disappointing. “Only two new local trains for Delhi, that too, on the Ghaziabad section have been announced. More local trains are needed to connect Delhi with NCR,” said Sandeep Gupta, a travel agent.

Physically challenged people will be able to avail concession in Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains from this financial year. Women over 58 years will be able to avail senior citizen concession.
