The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Friday claimed to have cracked four betting syndicates operating during India-Australia match with the arrest of 11 people, taking the total number of such rackets smashed during the cricket World Cup to 22.

“The rackets were operating in Tri Nagar, Vishnu Garden, Budh Vihar and Palam Colony during the knockout match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad,” said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime).

Among the 11 arrested, four are property dealers, two are commission agents, a courier agent, a travel operator, a canteen owner, a dog kennel owner and a part time worker.

“Total bets received by the four betting syndicates were around Rs3.70 crore. Three laptops, 55 mobile phones, a data card, four TVs, four calculators and notebooks have been recovered,” Chand added.

At Tri Nagar, three persons — Ajay Kumar (43), Prahlad Keshwani (38) and Ankur Kumar Bhutani (33) were apprehended. The gang had received bets from the punters worth Rs1.5 crore. Three more persons —Bimal Kumar (47), Gaurav Sharma (26) and Sanjay Bakshi (36) — were arrested from Vishnu Garden, they had allegedly received bets from the punters worth Rs75 lakh.

At Budh Vihar, two persons — Narender Kumar (41) and Suresh Kumar (41) — were arrested. They had received bets worth Rs65 lakh.

The fourth betting syndicate was cracked in Palam Colony and three bookies Deepak Pundir (32), Ranjeet Singh Saini (30) and Sachin Gupta (24) were arrested. They had received bets from the punters worth Rs80 lakh. A case under the appropriate sections of the law was registered.
