The police commissioner told the media on Sunday that he will try to dispel “misconceptions” about the functioning of Delhi police in his meeting with the CM. On Saturday, Kejriwal had slammed the Delhi Police for the “deteriorating law and order situation” in the Capital.

“I will definitely go and meet him and we will exchange our thoughts. There is a possibility of him telling us something useful and maybe I will be able to share something informative about policing because I have been working for 38 years in the department,” Bassi said.

The 19-year-old died on Thursday after two brothers who had been stalking her for several years allegedly attacked her in Anand Parbat area while she was out shopping with her mother. She was repeatedly stabbed in the face, neck, back, chest and stomach and died later in hospital.

During his visit, Kejriwal also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the girl and ordered a magisterial probe into the case while slamming Delhi Police, which is under the jurisdiction of the Centre, for the "deteriorating" law and order situation.

As the issue snowballed on Sunday, AAP's youth wing workers staged a demonstration in front of the Delhi Police headquarters, upping the ante against the force that has a history of differences with the AAP government,

Some of the protesters climbed barricades set up by police, who then resorted to using water cannons. Few of the protesters were detained from the spot and later released.

"The only reason the girl died is due to police inaction," an AAP supporter said. "Despite complaints from the girl, they didn't take the matter seriously. We now want the police to investigate the matter and take action against the killers."

Meanwhile, reacting to reports that he was issued summons to meet Kejriwal, Bassi said, "I have received a letter from the CM's office...I have been requested for a meeting at a time convenient to me."
