Chaos took over the office of Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) on Tuesday afternoon as a number of applicants and authorities clashed with each other owing to a miscommunication.

A large number of applicants seeking admission in one of the 13 NCWEB centres had come to the office in north campus. This also included those applicants who met the first cut-off but failed to secure admission. Applicants, who fail to take admission in the first cut-off, are not eligible to take admission in subsequent lists.

Meanwhile, the NCWEB authorities had not made any arrangements to handle the hullabaloo. There were no separate counters demarcated outside the centre.

On the other hand, the applicants ignored all directions given by the authorities.

“The university has stationed officials outside the centre to clear queries but they don’t have any answers to our questions,” said Ruchika Kohli, a resident of Paschim Vihar.

The authorities and the applicants also came to blows in the afternoon.

“There was no one to give any answers at all. That is what made the situation even worse. When so many applicants had turned up, there should have been a better response from the authorities,” said Rakesh Kumar, an applicant’s father.

The director of NCWEB, Aarti Saxena, said the situation went haywire because applicants kept asking the same questions over and over again.

“We tried to manage the situation the best we could. There was a lot of confusion among the applicants and they were not ready to leave despite getting an answer. There were scores of students who met the first cut-off but did not take admission. They were not ready to leave despite being told that they would not get admission. It led to a breakdown in communication,” said Saxena.
