Delhi, UP builders helped Gautam: Cops

At least eleven builders from Delhi and UP helped retired clerk ML Gautam to corner flats not only in the reserved category but also those reserved for the physically challenged and war widows in the the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) housing scheme 2008, the chargesheet filed by the EOW has said, reports Vijaita Singh.

The chargesheet accessed by HT reads: “ML Gautam had contacted 11 people from various parts of Delhi and Bulandshahar to corner flats under the reserved category, general category, war widows and physically challenged quota.”

The EOW had filed a chargesheet against the five accused — Laxmi Narayan Meena, Deepak Kumar, Gautam, Vijay Patanjali and Raju Ram on Wednesday.

Another accused Suresh Kumar was arrested on March 20.

Police said Suresh had given the mobile phone numbers of seven of his relatives and friends on the DDA application forms that he fraudulently submitted on behalf of Jhunjhunu residents in Rajasthan.

“Suresh mentioned phone numbers of his close relatives and friends on the forms so that any information regarding allotment of flats reached directly to him and not the actual applicant,” the chargesheet said.

While refraining from naming any DDA official in the chargesheet the police said, “taking benefit of the absence of any scrutiny of DDA application forms before the draw and absence of any cap on further sale of the allotted flats the accused connived with each other to corner the flats”.

Police have taken the help of technical surveillance and given the call details of the five accused to establish that they were in touch with each other since May 2008.
