With movie halls having been terror targets in the past, Saturday’s blasts managed to create a scare and kill the weekend business for most multiplexes and single screen theatres in the Capital.

Interestingly, the last weekend was unlike a regular one; it had movie buffs spoilt for choice, with seven new releases. This mode of recreation took a back seat this weekend.

Theatres in and around the terror-targeted areas were the worst hit. Regal, PVR Plaza and PVR Rivoli in Connaught Place had cancelled their night shows on Saturday; the following day didn’t bring in much business either.

Occupancy levels at the both PVR halls hovered around 20 per cent. The occupancy at the three Satyam Cineplexes (Patel Nagar, Nehru Place and Janakpuri) was down by 40 per cent on Sunday.

“Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days of the week, but this weekend was different. We had only 42 per cent booking and the collection for the night show was dismal on Sunday,” said joint manager of Liberty Hall in Karol Bagh, which showing 1920 this week.
