The number of dengue cases being reported in the city seems to be on the rise. As many as 45 cases were reported on Wednesday in comparison to 42 cases reported on Tuesday, which was said to be the highest number of cases reported in a day. As many as 671 cases have been reported so far.
The expenditure on taking preventive measures against the viral disease is much more this year than what was spent in 2008 when a larger number of dengue cases were reported due to heavy rainfall.
As per the MCD’s records, the budget allocated for manpower, medicines and the like this year is Rs 12 crore, which has been spent. But the MCD requires more. Last year, the budget allocation was Rs 17 crore, of which Rs 10.67 crore was spent by the civic agency.
“The overall health budget allocation from the government has been cut this year. We used to get Rs 30 crore till last year but have got only around Rs 20 crore this year. We are expecting more funds to come in from the government,” said NK Yadav, MCD health officer.
